Haflinger foals reach almost full height by the age of three. Sometimes, however, they can continue growing until the fifth year by three to six centimeters. They are born with names that begin with the initial of one of their parents, with a characteristic chestnut coat and a light mane and tail. They sometimes have markings on the head, but are usually solid-colored individuals that reach a height of 138 to 155 centimeters.
