Kriegslokomotive Class 52
A set featuring an exceptional block model of the German steam locomotive Kriegslokomotive Class 52 from World War II is part of the new Trains collection offered by COBI. The brick-built design perfectly reproduces the entire body, proportions, and details of the legendary steam locomotive, which is likely the most popular and recognizable among railway enthusiasts worldwide.
The unique camouflage of the vehicle is sure to attract attention. The locomotive is released in gray, corresponding to how German military locomotives were painted on the Eastern Front during the German invasion of the Soviet Union. The set also includes a special figure of a German military train driver. The 1:35 scale locomotive model, in addition to detailed reproduced features such as symbols, numbering, and markings, also includes numerous printed dials inside the locomotive cab. Thanks to the easily removable cab roof, you can look inside and see faithfully reproduced details of the equipment used to operate the vehicle. Attention has even been paid to a detail such as an imitation of burning coal in the firebox!
As with a real steam locomotive, the entire wheel mechanism is linked together, so it moves simultaneously. Inside the model are gears that form a complex mechanism ensuring realistic movement of the wheels of the entire drive. Simply press the model gently to set the whole system in motion.
As many as five different wheel designs are used on the locomotive, some with flanges—special edges that ensure the model stays firmly on block tracks and can negotiate block curves with a radius from R88. It is worth noting that the model is fully compatible, fitting block tracks from other block brands.
The tender, a car used to transport, among other things, coal, also faithfully reflects the real original. Inside it has a reproduced fuel store. It also features rotating bogies with wheels and a special coupler to which additional cars can be attached to create a complete train set.
The set also includes five sections of straight track with a total length of approximately 65 cm. The tracks are made using modern two-color injection technology, meaning each individual section, approximately 13 cm long, is a single piece—monolithic—but made from two different colors of plastic fused together. The gray, steel-colored rails stand out clearly from the very realistic brown railroad ties. No studs (pins) are visible on each tie, enhancing realism, and each is covered with a plank texture, i.e., an imitation wood grain. The rails can snap into building plates and have a technical hole allowing you to permanently attach the track to a railway diorama, e.g., using a screw or nail.

The BR 52 is a German-designed freight steam locomotive produced in many European factories in 1942–1945. It was a very inexpensive, simple, and at the same time highly reliable steam locomotive. It was capable of hauling freight trains weighing up to 620 tons at 80 km/h or 1,700 tons at 50 km/h. The steam locomotive was also frequently used to pull passenger consists.
